the Andy Goldsworthy photos & sonnets

Holly Spier

This picture was taken of my friends feet as we were sitting on the dock at the Port of Sacramento. The picture makes me think of longing because I am from the Monterey Bay and I love to be near water. When I am here in Davis, I miss being able to go to the beach and see the ocean whenever I want. In this picture my friend is splashing her feet in the water, and it reminds me of the way I feel when I am on the coast.

Here is my ephemeral representation of longing. I chose to do a swirl pattern in the grass, surrounding a central object, a week in this case, not only because of its interesting mottled white & green leaves, but also because in my case, the weed represents something that you may not expect just popping up, and sometimes how something people despise has its own beauty despite that. the weed is the central object being longed for. The swirl pattern represents life swirling around the longing, and yet the longing is still the biggest part. The red berries represent different things caugt up in the whirlwind of life, some of them are almost lost in the grass. The yellow flowes on the outside provide a frame for this life. The white berries in the center are like a little strong hold, a little population of believers that know the longing might end. They have actually gone through the grass swirl and made it to the center

I'm not sure if you wanted an explanation but I don't think i got to explain it very well in class! Have a good day!
